STORY BY TIM BRUSH

Saturday afternoons rain threatened skies, hampered the efforts of the officials for Charlotte County Motorsport's Park, cutting short and pushing back practice for the evenings events. The Stock/Sportsman heat went underway just after 7pm with Tom McDonald, #31, on the pole and taking the early lead. Charlie Mixson battled side by side with McDonald throughout the 8 lap contest. Dangerous Dave and Doug McCorvey, fought it out for 3rd and 4th, all in a tight pack at the finish line.

Vernon Hart Jr., #40p, on the pole for the Modified Heat, jumped out with an early lead, holding the top spot for the 8 lap distance. #2 Clay Fray in his 34 Chevy Coupe, was able to edge by Rick Botts #3 Chevy Sedan, challenging Hart... but ran out of time! The win went to Vernon Hart Jr, Clay Fray 2nd and Rick Botts 3rd.

Rain threatening, the Stock/Sportsman feature received the green flag shortly after 8pm. Charlie Mixson took a slim lead over Tom McDonald in the first few laps. Coming from his 5th place starting position, #24, Dangerous Dave the veteran driver of the club owners car, a Ford Coupe powered by a fresh flat head 255 cubic inch power plant, passed Doug McCorvey for 4th then John Paradis for 3rd. Setting his sights on Tom McDonald next, he was able to meet his goal passing McDonald's 31 Model A, putting him in the second spot. Charlie Mixson, #57, in his 1937 Ford Sedan powered by a 292 Chevy in-line six, was just a tick quicker than Dangerous Dave and they finished one, two, with Tom McDonald coming home third. Mixson was awarded 1st place for the Sportsman class while Dangerous Dave got 1st place honors for the Stock division. All 9 drivers in the feature put on one heck of a good show.

Unfortunately the Modified feature never got to complete a lap. As the field formed and took the green, the rain greeted them in turn one. A couple of cars spun resulting in the yellow flags warning to slow down but having no effect on the rain which washed out the remainder of the show. Perhaps a double feature will be held for the Race Cars of Yesterday's Modified's May 15th.
